Now towards the end you fade in some heavy over-the-top drumming, really leaning on the cymbals. (think "let forever be" by the Chemical Brothers)

Hearing this I got interested in the album. Listened to it. Funny that last track is Life on Mars?
The song is good, the album is not bad but I found out that wouldn't like to hear it once more. Piano only seems to plain for me, cannot unhear the originals.

Brad Mehldau is a fine pianist.  I just don't think this song lends itself well to being covered. 

Also, he kept playing the "And she's making me think..." with Bb - C - Db (minor intervals) instead of ending on a D natural (major intervals).  It's incorrect and was kind of irritating.

Mehldau is a very talented jazz artist, great to hear him on the Main mix these days; if my count is right we are up to two tracks now.
